Named after Sir Gerard Templer, the British High Commissioner who was instrumental in its establishment, Templer’s Park is located just 20km north of bustling Kuala Lumpur.
Every weekend, hundreds of picnickers throng the place, attracted by its shady and leafy surroundings. The jungle streams with their cool clear water are perfect for a refreshing dip. For the more adventurous, there are several jungle trails to be explored.
While Templer’s Park used to be the top picnicking spot for Selangorians, the popularity of Sungai Congkak and Ulu Yam has somewhat reduced the number of visitors here, but the place can still be crowded especially on weekends due to its location just beside a major road.
There are no campsites in Templer’s Park.
Bukit Takun Limestone Hill
A towering attraction near the edge of Taman Rimba Templer, namely the million-year-old limestone hill Bukit Takun, offers a picturesque setting for one to conveniently escape from the rigours of urban life.
A popular rock climbing site, Bukit Takun is a 300m-tall monolith sitting atop a forested hill with granite forming the base and limestone higher up. The hill offers 30-odd climbing routes in total.
One of the most scenic golf courses in Selangor is the Templer Park Country Club, with the majestic Bukit Takun serving as its backdrop.
Nearby
Taman Rimba Templer together with Taman Eko Rimba Komanwel and Taman Eko Rimba Kanching, where the famous Kanching Waterfalls are located, form a trio of forest parks located next to each other.
It is also some 15km from FRIM, the Forest Research Institute of Malaysia, another recreational forest park worth visiting.
How to get to Templer’s Park
If you are driving, use the North-South Expressway and exit at Rawang. If you plan to drive to Taman Rimba Templer or Bukit Takun from Kuala Lumpur, use the Jalan Ipoh road and continue towards Rawang for 20km.
By Bus
From Gombak LRT station, take bus MPS2. It will take around one and a half hours to reach Rawang via the trunk road.
